Ear piercing aftercare

Your ear is also made up of tissues that can be ripped or torn due to piercing. Just like the other parts of the body, it is also possible that the ear can be traumatized from the whole process of puncturing at the same time. Therefore, you must properly take care of your ears after having it pierced in order to avoid complications that may ruin the piercing and the whole facade of your ear as well. Here are some of the ear piercing aftercare tips that would help your ear heal fast.

1. Always make sure that you clean the newly-pierced part of the ear on a daily basis. Although you can do this anytime of the day, it is advisable to do the cleaning routine while you are taking a bath. As you later your hair, try cleaning the pierced ear at the same time. Cleaning it once a day is already enough to maintain a hygienic ear piercing. Do not be too obsessed in cleaning it though. Your ear may have a weaker defence against bacteria. There is also a possibility that it would not be able to heal the wound faster as well.

2. Take vitamins that would boost your immune system and would boost your body’s ability to heal itself. This includes various multivitamins and Vitamin B with zinc.

3. Check if there the ear piercing has hair or the surrounding area have hair as well. Using tweezers, carefully remove the hair without compromising the newly-pierced ear. The hair can actually be an irritant to the pierce which can cause dirt, bacteria, and oil to reach the puncture.

4. Change your pillowcase as often as possible in order to prevent bacteria.

5. When shampooing, always bend down to prevent the shampoo from reaching the ear. This may irritate and even inflame the pierced part of the ear. During the whole course of healing, it is advisable that you use only perfume-free products or even hair dyes.

6. It is inevitable that the ear would have lymph build-up. This would eventually turn into a so-called crust, which is prevalent among newly-pierced ears. The crust must be doffed so that irritation on the ear can be prevented.

7. Use a saline solution or create a mixture of salt and water when cleaning the ear.

8. As much as possible, prevent yourself from touching the ear piercing especially when you just had it. Remember that the ear is also made out of tissues. Give it some time to heal and recover from the piercing trauma.

9. Since you can’t change the ear piercing jewellery during the first few months, you must rotate the earring gently. This would prevent you from having crusts building up at the ear.

10. For optimum healing, change the ear piercing jewellery after three to four months since you had it punctured.

11. Never use strong products to clean your ear such as hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or witch hazel. It may give your ear a scar. Moreover, there are also times that such products can promote keloids on the area at the same time. You would not want your ear to look like it has an extra flesh, would you?
